French fighter planes shot down, as part of a NATO mission, a drone which had penetrated Latvian airspace, the Latvian army announced on Monday June 8. She specified that‘”a foreign unmanned aircraft had penetrated Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electronic warfare”, Sans révéler l’origine du drone.
The two French planes “took off from Siauliai air base”in northern Lithuania, before shooting down the drone, said Gintautas Ciunis, spokesperson for the Lithuanian army.
On May 19, a NATO fighter shot down a Ukrainian drone in Estonian airspace, the first interception of a foreign drone in the skies of a Baltic state by NATO air police since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
