The Israeli army expects the ongoing military confrontation with Iran to continue for “several days” amid an exchange of attacks between the two countries, Israeli media reported Monday.

“The assessment within the Israeli army is that the confrontation with Iran will continue for several days,” Army Radio said.

The media said the army had begun preparations for an expanded call-up of reserve forces, without providing further details.

At the same time, the Israeli Home Front Command tightened restrictions on gatherings and travel across the country until Monday evening.

Public broadcaster KAN said the new guidelines allow gatherings of up to 200 people in open spaces and 500 people in closed spaces, provided people can reach a protected area within the required time frame.

Restrictions also include closing beaches to the public, while workplaces can continue to operate if they have access to protected areas within the required time frame, the same source added.

Tensions escalated on Sunday when Israel bombed the Lebanese capital Beirut despite an ongoing ceasefire, prompting Iran to launch missiles into northern Israel in retaliation, with Israel responding with several waves of airstrikes against Iran.

The region has been under tension since the United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran in late February, triggering Iranian retaliation against Israel and other countries in the region hosting American facilities.

A temporary ceasefire was agreed on April 8, but negotiations subsequently stalled due to disagreements over its implementation and subsequent regional developments.
