Clashes continue in Lebanon, despite talks in Washington, a strike in the south of the country having killed three Lebanese soldiers on Saturday June 6, while the Israeli army announced the death of two of its soldiers. Israeli airstrike targeted military vehicle between Khardali and Nabatiyé, killing “two officers” et “a soldier”according to the Lebanese army. President Joseph Aaoun denounced a “flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law”which compromises “the efforts made by Beirut in Washington to put an end to the incessant Israeli attacks, which remain unpunished”.
Asked by AFP, the Israeli army specified that it had hit a vehicle which was heading “in suspicious ways” towards his soldiers, in a combat zone near Tebnit, where Hezbollah is present. “The army intervenes against the terrorist organization Hezbollah and not against the Lebanese army”she underlined in a press release, specifying that the incident was “under review”.
The IDF, for its part, announced in a press release the death of two of its soldiers in Lebanon: one succumbed to his wounds on Saturday and the other died on Friday. The Israeli army also claims to have targeted “150 positions” of Hezbollah in the last forty-eight hours and again called on Saturday for the evacuation of five villages in anticipation of bombings.
A nurse was killed in an Israeli strike on her way to work, her employer, Hiram Hospital, in Tire said. A “raid of the Israeli enemy” also killed two women and injured 22, “including three children and a wife”, in Saksakiyeh, in the Saida district, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Negotiations have been slipping since the conclusion of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran on April 8. Iranian media claimed earlier this week that Iran had suspended its participation because of Israel’s offensive in Lebanon. The United States wants to treat this issue separately, but Tehran has always demanded that Lebanon be an integral part of the negotiations.
