US forces have shot down two Iranian attack drones that threatened maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the US Middle East Military Command (Centcom) said.

“Earlier today, US forces in the Middle East shot down two single-use Iranian attack drones that were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” Centcom wrote on its X account on Saturday evening.

“American forces remain on alert and ready to continue to defend themselves against Iranian aggression,” added the same source.

On Friday, the US Military Command also announced that US forces intercepted several ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran towards the Strait of Hormuz and neighboring Gulf countries.

“On June 5, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain hours after the US Central Command (Centcom) shot down four Iranian single-use attack drones that had been launched towards the Strait of Hormuz,” it said. the Centcom.

The conflict between Iran and the United States, which began on February 28, led to the establishment of a ceasefire on April 8. Since that date, Washington and Tehran have continued discussions with a view to consolidating the truce and achieving a lasting de-escalation of tensions.

Although clashes had largely diminished following the entry into force of the ceasefire, tensions have recently reignited, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime corridor for the global transport of hydrocarbons. The negotiations initiated between the two parties have, at this stage, recorded no significant progress.
