Woman killed, nine people injured in Russian strikes in Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Ukrainian authorities announced this Sunday that a 50-year-old woman had been killed in a Russian strike targeting the Nikopol region, in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast, in the center-east of the country.

According to regional governor Oleksandr Hanja on Telegram, four other people were injured in the attack, two of them seriously. Five additional people were also injured in separate strikes in the neighboring Synelnykove district. In total, these attacks left one dead and nine injured in this region of east-central Ukraine, according to local authorities.

Pro-Russian authorities announce the death of a child in a Ukrainian drone strike

Authorities installed by Moscow in the occupied part of the Kherson region say a child was killed this Sunday in a Ukrainian drone attack targeting a residential building in Genitchesk, a town located on the Black Sea, near annexed Crimea. According to Vladimir Saldo, pro-Russian official in the region, the victim is a boy born in 2020. Five other people were also injured in the attack.

The city of Genitchesk has been under Russian control since the start of the offensive launched against Ukraine in February 2022. After the recapture of the city of Kherson by Ukrainian forces a few months later, the Russian occupation authorities transferred their regional administrative center there.

Volodymyr Zelensky wants to receive American envoys in kyiv soon

In an interview with CBS, Volodymyr Zelensky said he hoped for the arrival in kyiv, in the next two weeks, of several members of the American team responsible for the negotiations, notably Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The Ukrainian president recalled that the latter had already declared themselves ready to go to Ukraine, while recognizing that the current diplomatic context could complicate this trip. “There is always an ‘if’. And today, that ‘if’ depends on the Middle East,” he said.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, a visit to Ukraine would allow American envoys to better assess the reality of the situation on the ground. The head of state also stressed that they had visited Moscow several times and believes that they should make a trip to kyiv before any new visit to the Russian capital.

What is this new IRIS-T air defense system delivered to Ukraine?

Volodymyr Zelensky announced this Sunday the delivery by Germany of a new IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine. The Ukrainian president thanked Berlin for its “constant contribution to the protection of populations”.

Designed to intercept drones and cruise missiles in particular, this mobile air defense system strengthens Ukrainian capabilities as Russian attacks increase.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine suffered more than 2,300 drone attacks last week, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs and 108 missiles. This new delivery is part of Western military support for kyiv. Ukraine also concluded an agreement this week with Sweden on the supply of Gripen fighter jets.

kyiv claims strikes up to 1,200 kilometers into Russian territory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces had carried out several long-range strikes overnight against targets located inside Russian territory. Among them is an oil refinery in the Saratov region, about 700 kilometers from the front line.

According to kyiv, sites were also targeted in the Rostov and Kirov regions, as well as a military base located on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Volodymyr Zelensky assures that these operations are part of the Ukrainian strategy of “long-range sanctions”.

The Ukrainian head of state also indicated that other targets had been hit in recent days in several Russian regions, sometimes located up to 1,200 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

Romania threatens Moscow with new diplomatic measures

Romanian President Nicusor Dan has warned that his country could take further diplomatic measures against Russia if drones used in attacks on Ukraine continue to enter Romanian airspace.

In an interview with the BBC, the head of state raised the possibility of expelling the Russian ambassador, after the closure of the Russian consulate in Constanta and the expulsion of a Russian consul following previous incidents involving drones.

Nicusor Dan also affirmed that the Romanian authorities had “no doubt” about the Russian origin of the drone which recently crashed on the roof of a building in Galati, specifying that according to them it was a Geran-2 type drone.

Germany has supplied Ukraine with a new missile launcher, the IRIS-T launcher. Volodymyr Zelensky announced it this Sunday on Telegram, thanking the Germans for their “constant contribution to the protection of the population”. Germany committed in April to delivering several hundred missiles and thirty-six IRIS-T launchers to the Ukrainians.

Wherever we can enable Europe to do more, we do that too,” he declared on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue, the Asia-Pacific security summit. These statements come a few days after Volodymyr Zelensky sent a letter to Donald Trump in which he warned of a critical shortage of air defense systems in Ukraine.
