In these troubled times, royal families are at the forefront to set an example and make citizens want to enlist in the army. Whether it is the younger generation, forced to carry out highly publicized military service, or the older generation, everyone is asked to wear the fatigues. Thus, Victoria of Sweden announced that she was resuming her military studies at the age of 47, while the wife of the King of the Netherlands is preparing to become a reservist in the Royal Dutch Army.
This May 29, Maxima appeared for the first time in fatigues, after having completed the first part of her training. Alongside her comrades, the queen went to the courtyard of the Breda barracks, in the south of the Netherlands, wearing the regulatory khaki cap. A cap that she then violently threw to the ground, as tradition dictates, before taking her beret out of her pocket and putting on her head the badge of the general staff.
Maxima is in fact not assigned to a weapon, a regiment or an army corps, but is intended to occupy a general position within the Royal Dutch Army. At the end of her training, the queen will reach the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Her eldest daughter, Catharina-Amalia, follows similar education, essential to assume her future role as head of the armed forces.
