Two people killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon
Two people were killed yesterday by Israeli strikes in Lebanon, the day after an Israeli raid which left 11 dead, announced the Ministry of Health, despite the truce in progress since April 17. For its part, the Israeli army announced this morning the death of one of its soldiers the day before in southern Lebanon.
Pakistan believes in a multi-stage resolution of the conflict
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, mediator in these negotiations, yesterday fueled the scenario of a resolution of the conflict in several stages, declaring that he hoped to “welcome the next negotiation session very soon”. A first was held in Islamabad on April 11, without an outlet.
What does the agreement currently being negotiated contain?
According to American media, the agreement in preparation between Tehran and Washington would allow ships to pass through Hormuz again a passage through which a fifth of the hydrocarbons consumed in the world passed before the conflict.
According to CBS News, citing sources close to the discussions, the latest proposal would also include the unfreezing of certain Iranian assets in banks abroad. “Despite discussions started today (Sunday), the United States continues to block certain clauses of the agreement, in particular the question of the release of frozen Iranian assets, and these points remain unresolved at this time”, however indicated the Tasnim press agency at the end of the day.
Fars reports that the sanctions targeting oil, gas and other petrochemical products would also be lifted while negotiations continue in order to allow Iran to export these products, which are essential for its economy. The agreement discussed does not seem to resolve the issue, however. nuclear .
The United States says it is close to a “solid” agreement with Iran
The United States said it was still on the verge of concluding a “solid” agreement with Iran, after Donald Trump the day before tempered hopes of an imminent agreement to put a lasting end to the war in the Middle East. “We have what I believe to be a pretty solid thing on the table in terms of their ability to open the Strait” of Hormuz, but also “to enter into negotiations” on Iranian nuclear power, declared American Secretary of State Marco Rubio from New Delhi. “We thought we would have news last night, maybe today, I wouldn’t get too far ahead of myself on that,” he added.
As the United States works to find a deal, President Donald Trump dampened hopes yesterday, despite signs of progress on both sides. “I asked my representatives not to rush to conclude an agreement, because time is on our side,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform, also warning that the blockade imposed by his country on Iranian ports would remain in force “until an agreement is concluded, certified and signed”.The presidency, however, believes “that approval of the agreement by the Iranian authorities could take several days”, according to the media Axios.
