Général (2S) François CHAUVANCY

Saint-Cyrien, graduate of the War School, doctor in information and communication sciences (CELSA), holder of a third cycle in international relations from the Faculty of Law of Sceaux, General (2S) François CHAUVANCY served in the Army within the armored units of the marine troops. He left active service in 2014. Geopolitical consultant on LCI since March 2022, particularly on Ukraine and the war in Gaza (October 2023), he is an expert on doctrinal issues relating to the employment of forces, functions relating to the training of foreign armies, counter-insurgency and operations on the information. In this capacity, he was France’s national representative to NATO in the working groups on strategic communication, information operations and psychological operations from 2005 to 2012. Since July 2023, he has been editor-in-chief of the quarterly review Defense of the Union of Associations of auditors of the Institute of Advanced National Defense Studies (IHEDN). He served in Kosovo, Albania, the former Yugoslavia, Kosovo, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and on several occasions in the Republic of Ivory Coast where, under the Ivorian uniform, he notably trained for two years in this context some of the officers from French-speaking West Africa. He lectures on defense issues and influence and propaganda strategy at several universities. Since 1988, he has been the author of numerous articles on influence, defense policy, strategy, the military and civil society. Co-author or author of various works on strategy and geopolitics., his latest work translated into English and Arabic was published in September 2018 under the title: “Blockade of Qatar: the failed offensive. Information warfare, influence games, economic confrontation.” He received the 2010 Prize from the Maréchal Leclerc foundation for all the articles produced at that time. He has been a regular consultant since 2016 on military issues in the Middle East with Radio Méditerranée Internationale. Host of the blog “Defense and Security” on the Le Monde website from August 2011, he joined the Theatrum Belli team in May 2019.
