Two people were killed on Thursday, May 21, in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian region of Samara (Volga), said the local governor. “Ukrainian armed forces attack with drones” the town of Syzran, wrote Vyacheslav Fedorishchev on Telegram, specifying that these strikes left two dead. The attack on Syzran, which is home to a major oil refinery, also caused “blessés”he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was a new strike “longue portée” of the Ukrainian army against the country’s oil infrastructure. “This time it was the Syzran oil refinery, located more than 800 kilometers from our border”he declared on social networks.
Some 600 Ukrainian drones targeted the outskirts of Moscow during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Russia is now vulnerable to deep attacks from Ukrainian drones, which are causing concern among the population. In response to daily bombings by the Russian army for more than four years, Ukraine regularly strikes targets in Russia, claiming to target military but also energy sites in order to reduce the possibility for Moscow to finance its offensive.
