Sébastien Lecornu will hold a press conference on Thursday dedicated to the war in the Middle East, during which he will present a “new package” of aid for the month of June intended for the sectors most affected by the rise in fuel prices, Matignon announced this Sunday.

Particularly anticipated announcements. Sébastien Lecornu is due to speak to the press on Thursday May 21 to discuss the situation in the Middle East and its impact on France. The Prime Minister “will unveil on this occasion the new fuel aid system for the month of June”, which aims to “protect working French people and the economic sectors most affected from the effects of the increase in the price of oil and derived products”, according to a message from his services to the press.

The presentation of this aid was delayed by the hantavirus crisis, which infected a woman in France, while 26 contact cases are in “reinforced quarantine”. Forced to budgetary discipline and threatened by a recession, the government is procrastinating on public aid which it still wants to be “targeted” and not general, ruling out any reduction in taxation. Sébastien Lecornu, however, recognized that the crisis was dragging on and that in this context it was necessary to “change scale”. HAS

“Whatever it takes, it’s over”

The Prime Minister had also indicated that the State was no longer earning tax surpluses linked to this surge in prices, due to a 30% drop in consumption at the beginning of May. The government is “not there to provide generalized aid”, because “whatever it costs, it’s over”, recalled this Sunday the Minister of the Economy Roland Lescure. “We focus aid on those who need it most and we adjust according to the intensity of the crisis,” he explained.

Roland Lescure cited some new aid, such as “the flash fuel loan” for the construction sector, and aid for taxi drivers. Bercy has also put online a simulator for the fuel allowance of 50 euros intended for low-income, heavy-duty workers. The price of gasoline in France was at its highest on Sunday since the start of the war in the Middle East, both on the SP95-E10 and on the SP98, at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States are at a standstill.

The terms of the new aid for the month of June are unknown at this stage. The government must also soon provide details of the 6 billion euros in savings announced in April to deal with the crisis.
