On May 3, 2026, at 07:21, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, demanded that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz and give up its nuclear weapons program. In a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, Wadephul emphasized that Germany supports a negotiated solution. He stated, “As a close ally of the United States, we share the same goal: Iran must completely and verifiably abandon nuclear weapons and immediately open the Strait of Hormuz.”
Additionally, Donald Trump announced that he will review a plan submitted by Iran. Trump mentioned on his Truth Social platform that the plan’s acceptability is doubtful, given Iran’s lack of accountability for its actions over the past forty-seven years.
In response, Tehran challenged the United States to choose between a “mission impossible” military operation or a “poor deal” in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Iran has proposed a 14-point plan, transmitted through Pakistan, to end the conflict within thirty days.
Finally, Israel has issued new evacuation orders in Lebanon, complicating the situation in the region. The Israeli military ordered urgent evacuations for villages beyond the “security zone” in southern Lebanon, where they operate under a ceasefire with Hezbollah.
