After two months of conflict, the war in the Middle East is proving to be a heavy burden for the French state. According to a government source quoted by Franceinfo, the military operations carried out by France since the beginning of the conflict have cost “at least one billion euros” in just two months. This sum includes several expenses directly related to French interventions in the region, particularly the flights of Rafales mobilized for patrols, and all the logistics including crews, ammunition, and fuel. The French navy is also heavily involved, with “half” of its budgets reportedly being committed to conflict-related operations.
According to the executive branch, this spending for the conflict in the Middle East is due to a “overactivity of the forces” deployed in the field since the start of the conflict, which began on February 28.

The United States has also seen a significant increase in military spending due to the war between Iran and the US. On April 29, in front of the House of Representatives, Jules Hurst, the Pentagon’s financial controller, stated that Washington had already spent “nearly 25 billion dollars” since the conflict began.
Currently, no estimate of the final cost of French engagement has been communicated, and the government has not clarified how long France’s involvement in the Middle East will last at this intensity.
