The United States has warned Lithuania and Estonia of possible delays in the delivery of their American military equipment orders due to the war in Iran, which is putting a strain on American arms stocks.

American officials reportedly informed several of their European counterparts, including those from Baltic and Scandinavian nations, that planned weapons deliveries could be affected, according to statements made on Friday by the defense ministries of the Baltic countries to Reuters.

Lithuania confirmed it was notified by the Pentagon of “possible delays in the delivery of purchased ammunition from the United States due to the conflict,” a spokesperson for the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense said. Similarly, the Estonian ministry confirmed it was “informed of potential delays.” Washington has not yet responded.

If the different ministries have not provided details on the specific deliveries, Lithuania has orders for Javelin anti-tank missiles worth around $640 million from the United States. Estonia has several ongoing orders totaling $160 million, including the HIMARS system and Javelin missiles. The country expressed through its Prime Minister Kristen Michal that it was in discussions with the United States to “address these supply difficulties,” while reaffirming that the United States remains their “greatest ally.”

Unlike its neighbors, Latvia has not been officially informed by the United States of potential delivery delays, said Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina at the same press conference.

These three Baltic nations, members of NATO, share a border with Russia. Each has invested approximately 5% of their GDP this year in defense to modernize their armed forces in the face of security challenges.
