The 17th Parachute Engineers Regiment (RGP) of Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) is facing challenges in April 2026. On Saturday, April 18, Adjutant Florian Montorio was killed in an ambush during a mission of Operation Daman, within the UNIFIL.
In addition to Adjutant Florian Montorio, another soldier from the 17th RGP of Montauban was injured in the ambush attributed to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The 39-year-old father, originally from the Valence-d’Agen region, received a national tribute ceremony in his regiment in Montauban before being buried in a family ceremony at the Saint-Clair cemetery, the village where he lived with his family, on Thursday, April 23.
Hospitalized at Percy
His disappearance deeply affected all his brothers in arms, especially during the national tribute led by Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin and the subsequent procession to the Saint-Jacques Church in Montauban, where a mass was celebrated.
After a challenging day for the military, Ici Occitanie reveals that another soldier from the 17th RGP was injured in the attack that also claimed the life of Corporal-Chef Anicet Girardin. This information was confirmed by La Dépêche on Friday, April 24, 2026.
National Tribute for Corporal-Chef Girardin
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was repatriated to France at the Percy Army Instructional Hospital in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine. Sources indicate that his condition is stable, but caution is necessary in such circumstances.
Corporal-Chef Anicet Girardin, the second victim of the ambush, will also receive military honors at the 132nd Canine Infantry Regiment of Suippes (Marne), where he was stationed, on Tuesday, April 28. President Emmanuel Macron attributed the deadly attack to “Hezbollah fighters,” a heavily entrenched armed group in southern Lebanon.
