The Japanese manufacturer Terra Drone has deployed its new Terra A1 devices on the Ukrainian front. Designed as an economical and stealthy alternative to traditional missiles, this high-performance interception drone aims to neutralize Russian threats like the Shahed with remarkable precision.
Can the Terra A1 drone change the game for Ukrainian defense? The Japanese company Terra Drone officially announced on April 17 the first operational deployment of its Terra A1 drone in Ukraine. Managed by the organization Amazing Drones, this experimentation phase is already underway.
“The deployment for defense purposes has already begun within a military unit, and evaluation as well as the collection of feedback in real-life usage conditions are ongoing,” the company statement said.
Currently being tested by a single unit, this device raises high hopes against the threat of Russian drones like the Shahed. Presented as a cost-effective alternative to missiles, the Terra A1 has a relatively low unit cost, estimated at $3,000, or about 2,600 euros, according to information from Defense Express reported by Geo.
In terms of performance, this new device can reach a speed of about 300 km/h, has a range of 32 km, and boasts a flight autonomy of 15 minutes.
These characteristics specifically target interception missions and neutralization of targets in flight, Terra Defense explains. Its electric propulsion, combined with a size of only 47 cm in height, gives it great acoustic discretion, making enemy detection particularly complex.
Field reports seem very encouraging. “The Terra A1 is easy to pilot and offers great responsiveness, even in tight turns,” indicated the chief of the anti-Shahed unit in Chernihiv. This sentiment is shared by the Regional Defense Forces, for whom “the security and ease of use perfectly meet the users’ needs.”
In light of these results, Terra Drone is already planning to ramp up and “strengthen its production capabilities.”
