The Slimane case took a new turn in September. The singer, discovered on The Voice, was fined 10,000 euros for harassment of a technician during a concert in late 2023 by the Saint-Étienne judicial court. Just a few months after his conviction, a hearing took place on Monday, April 20 at the Saint-Étienne court for the judge to hear the different parties regarding the amount of compensation and damages claimed by Esmeralda’s father, as reported by Le Parisien.
How much are the damages and compensation claimed by Slimane?
Me Helena Viena, one of the lawyers for the civil parties, demanded no less than 31,000 euros for her client. “My client had five days of ITT and lost 82 dates and festivals. This represents 31,000 euros of net salary,” she told the judge, also mentioning that the months following the incident had been very difficult for the former Cupidon Tour technician. “Slimane had a certain aura. He was the technical director and had direct proximity with the artist. He did not want to cause trouble. This episode had an impact on his relationship and consequences on his career,” she continued. “It is for all these reasons that she is requesting 8,000 euros in damages and compensation.” A sum that “will be donated to a good cause,” reassured her colleague, Me Anne-Sophie Charrieras. “My client just wants reparation, for Slimane to understand that judicial consequences are not painless and colorless,” she added.
Slimane’s representative in court rejects the amounts claimed against the singer
The sums claimed against the singer did not sit well with the person representing him on Monday, April 20 at the Saint-Étienne judicial court. An associate of lawyer Caroline Toby’s office pointed out that the victim did not remain unemployed after leaving the Cupidon Tour and had found work on other shows. “We do not dispute the moral prejudice suffered. However, when claiming 8,000 euros, more than a simple medical certificate must be provided,” he replied, stating that he wanted this “exorbitant” amount reduced to a maximum of 3,000 euros. In addition to the amount claimed by the former technician, Slimane’s defense rejected any other claim for compensation, including that of the Cupidon Tour’s Lyon tour manager who demanded 143,000 euros in damages. As indicated by Le Parisien, the decision of the Saint-Étienne court will be deliberated on June 26.
