Around 770 Palestinians have been killed since a fragile ceasefire came into effect in Gaza on October 10.
Three people were killed by an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza Strip overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the Palestinian territory’s civil defence agency told AFP.
“Three people were killed in an Israeli strike at midnight (…) northwest of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip,” said Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for the first aid organization operating under the authority of Hamas.
Israeli military planes also flew over the southern Gaza Strip during the night, according to AFP journalists.
The Palestinian territory has been ravaged by the war triggered on October 7, 2023, the day of the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil. Israel’s retaliatory campaign has resulted in at least 72,549 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to a toll released Saturday by the Hamas Health Ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN. This figure includes around 770 Palestinians killed since the fragile ceasefire came into effect in Gaza on October 10.
More than half of the victims, almost 38,000 of them, are women and girls, according to UN Women. This represents “an average of at least 47 women and girls killed each day,” said UN Women spokesperson Sofia Calltorp.
Earlier this month, two Unicef drivers were killed by Israeli soldiers in the northern Gaza Strip, according to the UN agency. The Israeli army, on the other hand, claims that at least five of its soldiers have been killed in Gaza since October 10.
