Betty Huffman-Rosevear, a nurse in the American army during World War II, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the age of 104. Thanks to the Best Defense Foundation, which has been organizing the return of American veterans to Normandy for several years, Betty Huffman-Rosevear was able to attend the D-Day commemorations, including the joint French and American ceremonies held at the American military cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. La Renaissance le Bessin followed her, along with the thirty US veterans present on this occasion, during the 78th anniversary of D-Day.

«Born in Canada, she enlisted in 1944, after her husband was killed in combat. She then chose to serve in the American army nurse corps, providing valuable assistance to soldiers during World War II. She was one of the last witnesses of this decisive period in our history,» regrets the prefect of Calvados, Stéphane Bredin, in a post on the social network Facebook.
