The situation remains tense in the Strait of Hormuz. This Saturday, a ship from the French maritime transport group CMA CGM was subjected to warning shots, the company based in Marseille reported. “Its crew is safe and sound,” the company said in a brief statement.
US President Donald Trump had earlier claimed on his Truth Social network that Iranian shots had targeted a “French ship” and a British cargo ship. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) confirmed that the container ship was “damaged” on Saturday.
Several incidents occurred on Saturday when commercial ships faced shots and threats from the Iranian military while trying to navigate this crucial commercial route, which had been temporarily closed by Iran.
According to the British maritime security agency UKMTO, Iranian Revolutionary Guard patrol boats fired on a tanker on Saturday. The boat and crew are reported to be safe. The tanker is the Sanmar Herald flying the Indian flag, according to Vanguard Tech intelligence company. Another ship, the Mein Schiff 4 flying the Maltese flag, reported a projectile falling nearby as it sailed near Oman, according to Vanguard.
In a third incident, UKMTO reported a container ship that “may have been hit by an unidentified projectile, causing damage to some containers,” without causing a fire. This may refer to the CMA CGM vessel.
