In the Middle East conflict, Putin remains firm. Russia persists in its willingness to welcome Iranian enriched uranium on its soil as part of a potential peace agreement between Washington and Tehran, the Kremlin reiterated on Monday. “This proposal was made by President [Vladimir] Putin in contacts with the United States and countries in the region,” said Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesperson, in response to an AFP question during a daily press briefing. “The offer still stands, but has not been followed up on,” he added.
Western countries, led by the United States, and Israel, a sworn enemy of the Islamic Republic, suspect Iran, which possesses over 400 kg of highly enriched uranium, of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran denies. The United States and Israel began massive strikes on Iran on February 28, triggering a regional war.
“Negative repercussions on the international market”
Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on several states in the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage where one-fifth of the world’s oil supply typically transits. A fragile two-week ceasefire between Washington and Tehran entered its sixth day on Monday.
