At the end of a two-day summit with his Chinese counterpart, Donald Trump left China on Friday after claiming “fantastic” trade agreements with Beijing, but without signaling a breakthrough on global issues such as the war with Iran. Xi Jinping, invited by Donald Trump, will in turn visit the United States for a state visit in the fall of this year, according to the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

The two countries also agreed to “address each other’s concerns regarding access to agricultural markets, and to promote two-way trade growth, within the framework of reciprocal tariff reductions,” Wang Yi explained.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump warned Taiwan against declaring independence in a televised interview shortly before his departure from Beijing. “I don’t want someone to declare independence and then we have to travel 15,000 kilometers to go to war,” the US president said, as reported by Fox News. He also added, “We don’t want anyone to say, let’s declare independence because the United States supports us.”

On Thursday, his counterpart Xi Jinping had warned him, stating, “The issue of Taiwan is the most important in Sino-American relations. If handled properly, the relationship between the two countries (China and the United States) can remain generally stable. If mishandled, the two countries will clash or even conflict.”
