The departure of Michael Banks marks another departure among officials responsible for implementing the anti-immigration campaign desired by Donald Trump.

The director of the American border police (CBP), Michael Banks, resigned on Thursday, marking another departure among officials responsible for implementing the anti-immigration campaign desired by Donald Trump. “We thank the border police director Michael Banks for his decades of service to this country,” wrote one of his senior officials, Rodney Scott, in a statement.

“Under his leadership, the border has gone from chaos to the most secure ever experienced,” he added, referring to the border between the United States and Mexico. Under Michael Banks’ leadership, the border police has been involved in extensive anti-immigration operations carried out in many cities across the country since the return of Donald Trump to the White House in early 2025.

Before the departure of the border police director, Interior Security Minister Kristi Noem had been replaced in March, and a senior CBP official, Greg Bovino, had been demoted after the death of two Americans shot by federal agents on a Minneapolis street in January, which was the epicenter of this anti-immigration campaign. On the other hand, the current acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), on the front lines and particularly criticized, has announced his intention to leave his position at the end of the month.
