DÉCRYPTAGE – Consensus between Republicans and Democrats on support for the Hebrew state is crumbling, while a complex anti-Semitism is rising on the internet and social networks.
The Gaza war had fractured the American left. The Iran war is dividing the right. After being one of the most solid topics of consensus in American foreign policy for a long time, support for Israel now divides the two parties, as the country’s image deteriorates in public opinion. In both camps, critics have ceased to be marginal, and the issue is creating a growing divide. The Gaza war had fueled strong opposition within the Democratic electorate, where an increasingly important current openly criticizes U.S. military support for Israel. On the Republican side, the Iran war is producing a similar effect, albeit lesser, and is driven by different motives.
