UEFA will not broadcast Champions League for free

According to several Spanish media outlets, Florentino Pérez recently discussed an unprecedented distribution model for European football, involving making the Champions League accessible to the public for free, primarily funded by advertising. An ambitious idea that aligns with broader reflections on TV rights distribution and the economic evolution of European competitions, potentially easing tensions between Real Madrid and UEFA regarding the Super League.

However, this prospect is far from materializing. According to RMC Sport, UEFA has not included this project on its agenda, having just secured major broadcasting contracts for several years through its agency, especially in France with Canal+. These long-term, high-revenue agreements make any move towards a free model highly unlikely. In other words, while the idea may have been discussed behind the scenes, it is not on the agenda in Nyon.
