Top and Flop du week-end sportif à Toulouse

There were smiles and grimaces in Grenoble, some frustration in Michel-Bendichou, a lot of emotion at the small Palais des Sports, and plenty of tension at La Beaujoire. Let’s take stock of the sports highlights and lowlights in Toulouse!

Tops

Colomiers Rugby (Pro D2)

Colomiers perfectly concluded their regular season by imposing their authority on Grenoble (17-39), thus confirming their second place and a historic direct qualification for the Pro D2 semi-finals. Very realistic despite complicated conditions, the Columérins quickly took control thanks to their offensive efficiency and controlled management, before sealing the deal under the rain in the second half. Serious in their efforts, solid in occupation, and capable of striking at every opportunity, the Haut-Garonnais confirmed that they were hitting their peak at the best moment of the season.

Flops

Toulouse Olympique XIII (Super League)

TO long believed they could achieve an improbable comeback against Warrington, only to eventually succumb in Michel-Bendichou (16-24). Totally dominated in the first half and trailing 24-0 shortly after the restart, the Toulousains changed their tune after Jussaume’s try, finally finding their game and putting pressure on the English. Revived by Ashall-Bott’s brace, the Olympians made a crazy comeback, but a disallowed try by video referee halted their resurgence. Despite this eighth defeat of the season, which meant second-to-last position, the reaction shown at the end of the match shows signs of hope.

Toulouse Métropole Basket (WonderLeague)

TMB concluded their season with an encouraging defeat against Lyon (68-75), the undefeated leaders of the play-downs. Despite a revamped squad and a large deficit in the second half, the Toulousains showed a lot of character to gradually get back in the game, led by a brilliant offensive performance from San Antonio. Courageous and determined until the end, the young Pioneers offered promising resistance against a superior team on paper.

Toulouse FC (Ligue 1)

The Toulouse FC’s trip to Nantes turned into a nightmare on Sunday night. In an extremely tense atmosphere following FC Nantes’ relegation, the match was interrupted and eventually cancelled after only 22 minutes at La Beaujoire.

Nantes supporters invaded the pitch, throwing projectiles and engaging in violent clashes with law enforcement, prompting CRS intervention. Very marked, Vahid Halilhodzic, who was experiencing his last match on the Nantes bench, tried to intervene against the hooligans before returning to the locker room. After a crisis meeting, the prefect ultimately ordered the definitive halt of the match for security reasons.

Toulouse FC Féminin (Second League)

The Violettes were on the brink in the Alps, at the Grenoble FC’s Colette Besson stadium. The match got off to a bad start. First with a missed penalty in the fifteenth minute, then with a goal from the locals shortly after. The equalizer took time (54th) against a team motivated by the prospect of a possible promotion. Tef then doubled the lead, only to be caught in the final moments (2-2). Being champions and assured of promotion, the last goal is to beat the record for points accumulated in the Second League (held by Strasbourg in 2024).
