The conclusion of the season has arrived in Ligue 1. While PSG, crowned champions for the 14th time earlier in the week, lost to its neighbor Paris FC (2-1) in a match with no significance in the standings and saw Ousmane Dembele get injured, many other matches had important stakes. Lille, Lyon, Paris, and Lens will be in the Champions League, Marseille will finally compete in Europe, along with Rennes. At the bottom, Nice had a very bad outcome and will fight to avoid relegation against Saint-Etienne.
– Lille goes directly to the Champions League, Lyon to play-offs. In the race for the Champions League between Lille, Lyon, and Rennes, none seemed eager to secure their place. None of the three teams won, so it’s Lille who finishes 3rd despite losing at home to Auxerre (2-0). Just behind, Lyon completely failed in their final game, being humiliated 4-0 at home by Lens. But with Rennes’ defeat, Lyon finishes 4th and will enter the Champions League play-offs.
– Marseille in the Europa League, Rennes falls short. Just behind, Rennes had a very bad outcome. Being transparent at Vélodrome (3-1), the Bretons let go of their 5th spot, which would have secured a place in the Europa League, to Marseille, who will play in Europe at the last minute. Rennes ends up in 6th place and will compete in the Conference League play-offs.
– Nice, in the play-offs, will fight to stay in Ligue 1 against Saint-Etienne. Nice, Auxerre, or Le Havre: all three were fighting to avoid the play-offs to remain in Ligue 1. In the end, Nice, unable to beat the bottom team Metz (0-0), will face Saint-Etienne on May 26 and 29 to stay in the top flight.
– Nantes-Toulouse game definitively interrupted. It was a match with no consequences, between already relegated Nantes and 10th place Toulouse. However, it turned into a disaster at Beaujoire, with Nantes supporters invading the pitch, forcing all players to retreat to the locker rooms, and ultimately leading to the match being definitively suspended.
