- The Canadian Alysha Newman, bronze medalist in pole vault at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is changing direction.
- Newman, who made headlines at the Paris 2024 Olympics by clinching the bronze medal in pole vault with a jump of 4.85 meters (a Canadian record), has faced a less positive spotlight since her remarkable performance at the Stade de France. The Canadian athlete was suspended for 20 months for failing to meet whereabouts requirements during anti-doping controls. Initially suspended in early February, Newman’s suspension became permanent at the beginning of May.
- The 31-year-old athlete missed three anti-doping tests in a span of 12 months, on February 27, 2025, and on August 17 and 23, 2025. She was subsequently sanctioned for an extended period. Following her absence from the Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco on May 25, 2025, Newman is now transitioning to a different career path as she becomes a model.
- Newman has announced on social media that she has received an invitation to audition for the renowned Victoria’s Secret fashion show set to take place in Los Angeles next fall. In a post on Instagram featuring her in a pink bikini, Newman captioned it with “Soon Victoria’s Secret”. She has also shared stories showing her training and performing acrobatics in a gym, likening her preparation for Victoria’s Secret to preparing for the Olympics.
- As selected models for the 2026 fashion show will sign an exclusive contract with IMG Models agency, the question remains whether modeling will become Alysha Newman’s main focus in the coming months.
