A football tournament in the North turned violent on May 8th. Five players from the winning team attacked one of their opponents, who ended up in the hospital.

A horrifying scene unfolded on Friday, May 8th, when a 9-year-old player from AS Auchy-les-Mines in Pas-de-Calais was brutally beaten by five players from the opposing team, who are members of AS Creil. The incident took place after the final match of a football tournament in Vendin-le-Vieil, near Béthune. Following Creil’s victory, 9-year-old Matthéo was knocked to the ground and then assaulted on his body and face by his opponents, as reported by local media.

The young player was taken to the hospital to check for possible head injuries, but according to AS Auchy-les-Mines president Julien Borie, he suffered bruises and psychological shock. Borie has announced plans to appeal to the Hauts-de-France league to sanction the coach of the players involved in the assault.

Borie described the incident as “extremely violent” and a “30-second panic” before the players were separated. He also criticized the coach of AS Creil for his role in the incident, stating, “Five players can be easily identified by Creil’s coach. He was the first to intervene and he knows exactly which players attacked Matthéo.”

Despite the trauma, Matthéo returned to the pitch on Saturday, May 9th, for a championship match.
