On Monday, 73 young high-level athletes from Gard were honored in Nîmes by the Departmental Council, which is renewing its financial support for the 5th consecutive year to help them progress.
The Departmental Council of Gard continues its commitment to high-level sports. During a ceremony on Monday, May 4, 73 young athletes from Gard were honored at the Hôtel Édouard Mouret.
An individual grant of 1,000 euros
Representing President Françoise Laurent-Perrigot, Vincent Bouget, departmental counselor delegated to sports, reiterated the community’s commitment to concretely support “excellence pathways.” This support takes the form of an individual grant of 1,000 euros, awarded to athletes listed on the high-level ministry lists, on the condition that they are not professionals.
Intended for those under 25, with an extended threshold to 30 years for athletes with disabilities, this grant aims to support their various stages of progress: physical preparation, training, equipment acquisition, and participation in competitions, both in France and internationally.
The most represented disciplines this year are swimming and volleyball, followed by handball and judo. The program also includes adaptive sports.
Beyond individual support, this initiative is part of a larger strategy led by the Department. In 2026, over 5 million euros are allocated to sports, with a clear motto: “equality of access to practice, structuring of the Gard sports world, and the enhancement of the territory.”
