One year after losing everything in the final stretch, the Champions League final, the Italian Cup, and the championship, Inter Milan is back at the top of Serie A. The Milanese club secured the Italian championship with a victory over Parma (2-0) on Sunday, May 3, on the 35th matchday of Serie A. They now have a 12-point lead over Naples with three matches remaining.
Under Cristian Chivu, the team built their title on three exceptional months from December to late February: 14 wins and one draw in 15 games. They have maintained their lead since the 15th matchday. Neither Napoli, the defending champions, nor AC Milan could keep up. The Nerazzurri excelled in their attacking play, scoring 82 goals (23 more than any other team), with contributions from Lautaro Martinez (16 goals) and Frenchman Marcus Thuram (13 goals), who scored again on Sunday night against Parma.
With this 21st national title, Inter remains the second most successful club in Serie A history, still far behind Juventus and their 36 Scudetti. The Lombard club still has the chance to end the season with a double. While they missed out on the Italian Super Cup in December (losing on penalties to Bologna), they will play in the Italian Cup final on May 13 against Lazio.
