“We all suffer from the heat,” breathes Pascale, her cap screwed on her head. It was with the department on heatwave alert that the brand new Cité Internationale du Cinéma d’Animation was inaugurated on the Place de la Fontaine du Haras d’Annecy.
To cope, the City, co-organizer of the event, distributed 1,000 bottles of water, 250 hats, 700 caps and 400 fans at the time of the speeches and the show. The refreshing cycle of the fountain has been programmed continuously until 10 p.m. and two refreshment stands offering water have been installed. Despite the blazing sun which made the assembly sweat, there was no question for some of them missing the event with musicians, dancers and horses. “I’m delighted to be here to watch the show,” says Pascale with good humor. Florence and Céline attended the performance with ice cream in hand. “We wanted to come despite the heat because we experienced the stud farm when there were still horses,” they confide. “The heat remains bearable in this kind of case, and then you can always go and cool off in the gourmet markets or in the shade of the buildings,” declares Florence, who had not even thought of taking a hat or cap to cover her head. Others, and there were many of them, didn’t wait for the end of the show to go take a dip in the square’s reflecting pool.
