On June 4, France learned with sadness and anger that the body of little Lyhanna had finally been found. The 11-year-old girl had been missing for almost a week. And the main suspect in this affair is Jérôme Barella, the father of Lyhanna’s best friend. However, the latter had already been the subject of reports and complaints for acts of a sexual nature involving minors.
Indeed, when Lyhanna disappeared, Jérôme Barella was already the subject of six complaints, two reports and a disciplinary procedure. An incredible situation which demonstrates a major flaw in the French legal system. Result: on June 8, many people gathered in the streets to challenge the government. Many personalities took part in the gatherings, like Flavie Flament, Lio, Suzane, Enora Malagré, Marie Portolano, Linda Hardy, and even Lola Dubini.
Bruno Solo invites men to join rallies after Lyhanna’s tragic death
Invited sir RTLBruno Solo did not hide his anger and his disappointment. The actor and director deplores the absence of men in these gatherings. “At the moment when we would need them, at the moment when we would need them to be there, under the windows of the ministries, under the windows of the courthouses of France and Navarre, they are not there”, he denounced. While a national initiative has been launched by feminist associations to demand a comprehensive law against sexist and sexual violence, Bruno Solo is annoyed by the silence of men.
“It saddens me because many men, too many men, do not understand that it is a fight for our humanity in the most universal sense for the other half of humanity which is constantly flouted, attacked, humiliated, raped, murdered.” he said. And to continue: “It’s a shame that some men confuse these necessary peaceful meetings with demands, with pain and who think that it is not their fight too. Or that it is a fight – for the most misogynistic among them – of good women. There are many men who are afraid of feminists. They think feminists are women who hate men. No, it’s just women who defend their position in society and who want to advance as equals with men.”
Bruno Solo commits to women to fight against sexual violence
Like Thomas Pesquet recently, Bruno Solo invites men to realize that this fight is collective and does not only concern women. “We must be allies and not confiscate. Because that too, many men try to confiscate the word,” he declared. And to conclude: “If we are not able to integrate into this fight which, I repeat, is our fight, our fight for women and the other half of humanity and for our children, therefore for our future. If men are not yet capable of understanding it and therefore of participating in these movements, in these platforms, in these demonstrations, in these cries from the heart and guts, I want to say too bad for them, I will not be on their side. An important speech!
