It’s a face-to-face encounter that is as unique as it is exciting. When the great Ian Mckellen, 87, is in a duet with the main actress of the series I may destroy youMichaela Coel, it is inevitably a treat of humor, intensity and emotion.
In The Christophersthe new film by Steven Soderbergh which is released this Wednesday, June 10, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings plays Julian Sklar, a painter with dried up inspiration who keeps on the third floor of his house a series of nine unfinished portraits, all versions of the face of a former lover.
Un personnage espiègle et désespéré
Contacted by Sklar’s children and heirs, Lori Butler (Michaela Coel) is offered a tidy sum to secretly complete the paintings, thus allowing Sally and Barnaby (Jessica Gunning and James Corden) to pocket a fortune upon the death of their father. Lori paints herself and doubles this ability with great talent as a forger.
She gets hired as Julian Sklar’s assistant. Over the course of the conversations, a beautiful relationship is established, which is based on honesty and trust. Julian found some rather cowardly but fair articles on the Internet from Lori on her latest work and she wasted no time in telling him what was going on behind her back. But the greedy children don’t intend to give up.
Carried by a tasty interpretation of Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel, The Christophers is an enjoyable film. He is delightfully mischievous, even if his character is deep down desperate; Lori is lucid, sensitive and ultimately attached to the old man. We’re having a great time.
“The Christophers” – 1:40 a.m. – Wednesday, June 10.
