CRITIQUE – In the film “The Battle of Gaulle. The Iron Age”, filmmaker Antonin Baudry depicts the beginnings of the general’s political and military adventure between 1940 and 1942. A grandiose fresco, carried by the actor Simon Abkarian who perfectly embodies the leader of Free France.

From one of the first dialogues in Antonin Baudry’s historical fresco dedicated to the leader of Free France, where we see the recently named General de Gaulle refusing to order the withdrawal of his tank platoon at Montcornet, on May 17, 1940, the tone is set. The Battle of Gaulle. The Iron Age will be a historical, realistic work, but also entertaining, with the freedom and variety of treatment (drama, comedy, war film or psychological work) that the genre of fiction allows. Like Xavier Giannoli with Rays and Shadows, the director of Wolf Song has examined, with his co-writer wife Bérénice Vila, dozens of works (essays, biographies, correspondence, etc.) to build the framework of one of the most ambitious French films of the year.
