The third “Musical Meeting” of the year will take place at the intercommunal media library on Saturday June 13 (at 9:30 a.m. in Espace Casals). Its theme will be “Rare musical formations”.
“If we know the Symphony, the Concerto for piano, for violin or for cello, the Quartet and the String Quintet with their codes well, the development of new instruments during the history of music will allow composers to write works that do not respond to the usual formats”explains Alain Rouzot, tireless organizer of the Prades musical meetings.“Having studied their possibilities, they demonstrated an often surprising inventiveness in seducing audiences. Furthermore, these new instruments will gradually be integrated into quartets and quintets to form formations ranging from the Sextet to the Dixtet. So many nuggets to discover if we want to be curious!”
From Bach’s son to Camille Pépin
For this enthusiast, “Two ‘Tubes’ have perfectly won over the general public. These are ‘The Carnival of the Animals’ by Saint-Saëns and ‘Peter and the Wolf’ by Prokofiev where various instruments describe clearly identifiable figures.” The proposed discovery program will cover the repertoire going from the 18th century with one of Bach’s sons to ending with pieces created in recent years, including two by the composer Camille Pépin. “In passing, we will honor the memory of Maurice Duruflé, a great French organist and composer (1902-1986) who gave the premiere of Poulenc’s ‘Concerto for organ and timpani’ in 1939.” This Meeting is open to all audiences, music lovers and curious about the discovery and richness of sounds, initiated or newbies.
