The Protestant parish of Saverne is offering a film concert on Saturday June 6, at 8:30 p.m. The church will serve as the setting for this evening during which spectators will be able to discover the silent film Monte là -dessus (Safety Last !) released in 1923 and directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor.
A cult film from the 1920s
In Safety Last ! the hero, a young man recently arrived in a big American city, dreams of success and wants to impress his fiancée. But little lies quickly become big adventures, leading up to a spectacular climb above the city, as funny as it is thrilling. A masterpiece of American silent cinema, the film remained famous thanks to a dizzying scene where the hero, played by Harold Lloyd, hangs from the hands of a giant clock.
The particularity of this evening is that it will be entirely hosted on the organ by Nicolas Kilhoffer. No recorded soundtrack will be broadcast in this way. The music will be entirely improvised live, throughout the film. Suspense, humor, chases, emotions, vertigo: everything will be created in the moment, before the eyes of the public, to bring back to life the magic of silent cinema as in its origins.
A young organist well known to the public in Saverne, Nicolas Kilhoffer has given concerts in Europe, North America and Africa, in prestigious places such as Grace Church in New York, Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Athens and All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi.
Between a cult film and music invented on the spot, all the ingredients seem to come together for an evening that is funny, spectacular and accessible to all.
