It is a monument of classical music which will resonate this weekend in the Jura. The Musique des Lumières orchestra will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s 5th Symphony during two concerts, Saturday at the Espace La Velle in Noirmont and Sunday at the Théâtre du Jura in Delémont. Composed at the beginning of the 19th century and premiered in 1808 in Vienna, this work is one of the best known in the symphonic repertoire. Its famous first four notes are immediately recognizable, but its interpretation remains a challenge for musicians. This symphony represents an immense challenge, not only on a technical level, explains artistic director and conductor Facundo Agudin.
An anniversary marked by a world creation
The history of the orchestra dates back to May 2001. At the time, established in Basel, Facundo Agudin launched a first musical project in the church of Glovelier with the pianist Christiane Baume Sanglard and choristers from the Jura. This initiative gave birth to Musique des Lumière, which over the years has become a key player in Jura cultural life. The anniversary concerts will continue throughout the year to highlight both the classical repertoire and contemporary creation.
These concerts are part of the 25th anniversary program of Musique des Lumières. The ensemble, which currently has 55 musicians, will also offer a world premiere with “Portrait in Sepia” by Argentinian composer Pablo Ortiz. /tna
