The Utopia cinema welcomes you on Wednesday May 26 from 7 p.m. for a special evening dedicated to inclusion, sharing and emotion. The cinema team is offering a two-part event, entirely dedicated to the discovery of deaf culture, with an introduction to French Sign Language (FSL) followed by a screening of the film Sorda.
Learn to communicate better
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a moment of sharing accessible to all: an introduction to LSF led by Coralie Castel, communication interface. This session will allow spectators to acquire the first communication reflexes and break the barriers of silence. A concrete approach to open minds before going to the screening room.
Sorda: An immersive favorite
At 8 p.m., time at the cinema with the screening of the film Sorda, presented in a subtitled version for deaf and hard of hearing people (SME). A real favorite of the Utopia team and spectators during its preview last month, this feature film explores with immense accuracy the relationship between deaf and hearing people through the prism of parenthood.
The film follows Angela (deaf) and Hector (hearing), a happy couple whose daily life is turned upside down by the upcoming arrival of their first child. Faced with this birth, Angela experiences deep doubts: will she be able to form a bond with her baby? How can you flourish as a mother in a society that too often forgets to include those who cannot hear?
Inspired by the life of director Eva Libertad – who entrusted the main role to her own sister – Sorda shines with his direction. Thanks to remarkable work on sound, the film succeeds in gradually immersing the hearing public in the sensory perception of the deaf world.
