The proximity between Dayoung, member of WJSN, and the members of MONSTA X is currently causing some fans to react. After criticism related to his recent interactions with the group, the idol spoke out to apologize.
The controversy grew after Dayoung posted a message on Bubble, which was then relayed to Korean online communities. In this message, the singer explained that she did not want to hurt anyone and that she would now be more careful with her words.

“I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. But I think some people were hurt because of me. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Even if it wasn’t my intention, if someone experienced it badly, then I think I need to change. I will be more careful in the future. Can you tell them I’m sorry? And thank you for pointing that out to me. HAS”
This reaction comes as fans are massively talking about the very close relationship she has with the members of MONSTA X, her seniors at Starship Entertainment.
Dayoung had already explained in the past that she had known the members of the group since her days as a trainee. She even said that they took care of her when she was younger, to the point of developing a sort of “family game” between them. The idol notably called certain members “dad”, while they nicknamed her their “daughter”.
For a long time, this dynamic was mostly seen as an affectionate joke between artists from the same agency. But recently, several pieces of content have put this relationship back in the spotlight.
In a recently released challenge video, Dayoung once again called Kihyun “dad†, which caused a lot of criticism on social media. Some fans feel that this joke is now inappropriate or excessive, especially after the previous relationship rumors between Kihyun and Bona, another member of WJSN.

Other sequences also fueled the discussions. In a recent Joohoney YouTube video, Dayoung joked that the rapper had a lot of money. When he talked about her channel’s income and sponsorships, she responded with humor that fans should watch more of her videos to avoid “oppa ending up ruined†.

These remarks divided Internet users. Some found her comments funny and natural among close friends, while others felt she was crossing some boundaries regarding the MONSTA X fandom.
The controversy then gained even more momentum after Dayoung’s apology. Some fans believe that she should now avoid this type of nicknames or public jokes with members of the group. Others think, on the contrary, that the reactions are disproportionate, given their long friendship.
Several Internet users have notably pointed out that Dayoung has known the members of MONSTA X since adolescence, and that this fictitious family relationship has existed for years. Some therefore defend the idol by asserting that it is simply a mark of affection between close colleagues who grew up together in the same agency.

Others, on the other hand, consider that at their current age, continuing to use this type of nicknames can make some fans uncomfortable, even if no bad intention was present behind these exchanges.
- “I understand that they are close and that she is like a little sister that they pamper. But now that they are all adults, couldn’t they stop with these nicknames? The fans would probably prefer that… They’re not even 10 years apart, it’s not like he had to call her “daughter†. Might as well stick to “brothers and sisters†. HAS”
- “Honestly, even the age difference isn’t that big. But since MONSTA And now Dayoung is in his late twenties and they are in their thirties, so even knowing the context, this father-daughter side can be uncomfortable depending on people. Since she apologized, I hope they move on peacefully. HAS”
- “It was understandable that some people didn’t like it… I preferred not to say anything so as not to come across as jealous, but since it got worse, now that she understood and said she was going to stop, she should really stop. HAS”
- “They just attack him because they don’t like him. HAS”
- “The fans let it slide for a while. But this hurts his image because in the end, only Dayoung apologized. HAS”
- “I only understand because these are not my biases. If they were my idols, I wouldn’t like it either. HAS”
- “Ah, I understand better now. So they say that the “family game†that they did when they were young still continues today… But basically it was just a game between them when they were young, not a real special relationship. And now it’s becoming a problem. HAS”
- “I’m not a fan of either group, but it doesn’t matter if they’re in the same agency or not… even among friends, I don’t think it’s good to show too much closeness. You never know how relationships evolve. Even close friends can argue, drift apart, and later it can become awkward with a partner. And that ends up tiring everyone. HAS”
- “But why call someone “dad†when they are both adults? HAS”
- “It’s weird to see people old enough to be parents playing father and daughter. It’s strange on both sides. They are idols, why display this kind of thing? She could have just said “thanks for helping me†or something like that. HAS”
- “Um… why does she call another male idol “daddyâ€? I understand why some fans are angry. “They especially go after Dayoung. HAS”
- “It’s not even just because of the YouTube video. People were already criticizing her for other Instagram interactions with Kihyun. There, they are just using this story as an excuse to continue criticizing her.”
- “They’re making a big fuss over nothing once again…… she apologized, so we have to move on. HAS”
- “I can understand why some fans don’t like it. HAS”
- “She said she would be more careful in the future, so now she just has to be careful. HAS”
For now, Dayoung assured that she will be more careful in the future to avoid further misunderstandings between fandoms.
