True to its role as a global showcase, the Cannes Film Festival once again sets the tone for future beauty trends. This year, one hair detail dominated celebrity appearances: the side parting. Already seen during the latest fashion shows, it now confirms its big return to the Croisette, worn both on ultra-smooth hair and on more natural styles.
Far from the sometimes dated image that we associated with it, this hairstyle returns in a more modern and resolutely glamorous version. An alternative to the central parting, signature of the clean girl, which dominated the last few seasons.
The side parting, the it hairstyle of the Cannes Film Festival
On the Croisette, each star adapted the hairstyle according to their own tastes. Among the most noted appearances, Demi Moore appeared with a glamorous bob, Ester Exposito wore her hair long, straight and shiny, the same for Irina Shayk.
De son côté, the mannequin Bella Hadidelectrified the red carpet with a flat bun, and finally, Marion Cotillard chose a more glamorous version, with natural waves.
For Julie Lopez, director of education at Dessange – partner brand of the Cannes Film Festival – and expert in hairdressing for more than twenty years, this return can be explained by a desire for more lively and less rigid glamor. “We are seeing a lot of sideways movements this season, with lines that are sometimes very marked, sometimes more blended into the material. This works on sophisticated ponytails, wavy, ultra-straight hair or even fuzzier hairstyles,” she explains.
According to the expert, this trend is especially attractive because it immediately transforms a look: “The side parting brings relief to the face and gives movement, softens certain lines and brings immediate modernity to a hairstyle.”
Another strong point: its versatility. “Even with a few free strands around the face, the side parting can work. It allows you to obtain something very glamorous without the hairstyle appearing fixed or too worked,” specifies Julie Lopez.
After several seasons dominated by ultra-minimalist beauty treatments, Cannes thus confirms the return of this flagship hairstyle of the 2000s. A trend which could quickly leave the red carpets to establish itself well beyond the Croisette.
