On the occasion of the commemoration of May 8, many residents gathered at the Roquettes war memorial alongside representatives of veterans’ associations and elected officials of the town, in a moment of memory marked by solemnity and conviviality. The ceremony was orchestrated by Yvan Exposito, third deputy mayor of Roquettes, with the participation of Véronique Andral, city culture assistant and music teacher in Muret. The latter directed the choir composed in particular of the vocal ensemble Les Baladins du Confluent as well as singing students of Laurent Dubarry, from the SIVU music school. The choristers were accompanied by instrumentalists and their teachers, Olivier Trenel and Corinne Peyet. After a rehearsal organized at the Jean-Ferrat hall, located near the ceremony venue, the musicians and singers offered a performance that was particularly appreciated by the public, in an atmosphere that was both ceremonial and friendly.
At the end of the commemoration, participants and residents met to share the traditional drink of friendship, thus extending this moment of gathering and collective memory.
