At 78 years old, Jacques Vendroux left his mark on the history of radio with his voice known to all. The great-nephew by marriage of General de Gaulle spent 55 years in the public service, notably as director of sports at Radio France, before joining Europe 1 to host the Legends Studio. A career with impressive longevity. The journalist has covered the biggest sporting events in the world and rubbed shoulders with football legends. But this Tuesday, May 12, the radio star made a very sad announcement.
While Jacques Vendroux was passing through Pro Hour to evoke the fiftieth anniversary of AS Saint-Étienne, Pascal Praud questioned his counterpart about the extended break in his column Friday Vendroux. The sports journalist ended up giving the reasons for his absence: “I had no intention of talking about it today. I took a break because I have cancer. It’s that simple, so I take care of myself. It happens, don’t be afraid.”
Since when did Jacques Vendroux suffer from cancer?
The septuagenarian then revealed that he had received the terrible diagnosis six months ago. A real shock. “It’s very violent when you learn it, but you get over it very quickly. I am in contact more than usual with doctors and oncologists. I do everything to get out of it.“, he confided. Despite the heavy treatments which require a lot of rest, the host of the Legends Studio maintains a fighting temperament and refuses to feel sorry for himself. “I sleep a lot because the medications I was given require me to sleep. », he explained.
If he said to himself « soulagé » With this announcement, the presenter admitted that he did not wish to express this truth to his 101-year-old mother. The reason? To protect her. “This could hasten his departure. », a-t-il soufflé.
Jacques Vendroux: despite cancer, morale is there
« You don’t have to be afraid. It is a serious illness, but It’s a treatable disease.. We have wonderful doctors who take wonderful care of you.“, added Jacques Vendroux, visibly ready to fight. The sports journalist wanted to remind people that this was not the first time that he had to face a serious health problem. “I had accidents, I had Furiani, I had Brazil, I always came through! And I can tell you that there, I will also get through it, without problem.“, he concluded with strength and hope. A great lesson in combativeness.
