Forbach: 34 disciplines to discover at the open days of the music and dance conservatory

The Forbach conservatory is opening its doors this Friday, May 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., an opportunity to take stock of what the establishment offers.

Son N°1 – 34 disciplines to discover at the open days of the music and dance conservatory

Sylvain Sibille, director of the community conservatory of music and dance in Forbach.

To begin with, can you remind us what you are offering at the conservatory?

There are roughly 34 disciplines, all the instruments of the symphony orchestra, plus guitars (classical, electric, bass), piano, organ, without forgetting dance and a small exclusivity in Moselle-Est, choir direction and orchestra direction.

Is it for all ages?

We have around a little over 600 students each year and yes, we have all ages, knowing that we can take students from 4 years old. There is no age limit for adults, knowing also that there are different courses for all ages and all desires, if I dare say so.

Open days are therefore being organized this Friday, what will we find?

Indeed, all the instruments will be presented, accessible free of charge. We can, if we want, use them all and try them. Well, you’ll have to allow 4 hours because to do them all, it will take a little time but it’s possible, no worries! There will also be public rehearsals. We will be able to realize what this gives as a whole because in fact for us what is fundamental is that we learn an instrument but it is above all to share. So to play the orchestra in general. Knowing that here, there are choirs, of course, but there are around ten orchestras of all levels and all musical sensibilities.

Are there perhaps anything new for the next school year?

There are always new things but it’s a little early to talk about them, I’m going to wait until the next school year to announce them. But it is true that for the last year in particular, we have had a slightly specific, slightly more inclusive course which also allows us to take students with disabilities thanks to a disability referent who was established not long ago. So it’s true that it will also be, on May 8, an opportunity for our partner, the La Voie d’Adam association, to accompany people and discover this establishment which is really suitable for everyone.

The Conservatory offers an adapted course and welcomes people with disabilities, including invisible disabilities?

Exactly, since we support them, there are around ten students this year who are educated here, in these courses. And the teaching really adapts to the needs and possibilities of each person.

If a visitor is interested in a discipline on Friday, he will take lessons, but will he also participate in events, concerts, competitions?

EIndeed, the course includes the possibility of attending lots of events with different possibilities. I’m thinking of the Carreau national scene in Forbach, Le Gouvy in Freyming, the Gouvy Institute. In fact it is a multiple journey. We have the choice and access to many things under favorable conditions, even for free. Afterwards, if you work well and if you have a little luck, you can make a career out of it. We have around a hundred students who, since the creation of the establishment, have pursued careers in both music and dance.

The community conservatory has allowed young people to flourish in their discipline. Do you have any examples?

There is the example, the closest to us, it is Marina Viotti who was with us in February. Indeed, a great opera singer who spent her young years, if I dare say so, in Petite-Rosselle. But we also have conductors, I am thinking of Joseph Bastian who is a conductor in Germany. Mathilde Vendramin, who I taught, from Folkling which permeates the Berlin jazz scene. Mathieu Meyer, head of military music in Toulouse and also Daphné Schlosser who, after dance and a course at the Florent course with us, joined lots of musical comedies and she is making a career in musical comedies at the moment.

Is it expensive to enroll at the conservatory? Does the price depend on whether you live in Forbach or outside?

So indeed it’s an idea that we have a bit of a preconception. Well in Forbach, it costs 6 euros per week for 3 lessons. So you see, it’s accessible.ÂAt this price it is for people who live in the urban community of Forbach Porte de France. There are also discounts for large families and we can also offer rental of certain instruments at attractive rates.
