Abbeville: Une subvention d’équilibre pour le cinéma Le Rex

During the budget meeting of the city of Abbeville (Somme), officials voted for a balancing subsidy for the Le Rex cinema amounting to 173,000 euros as the revenue from tickets is not enough to balance the service.

On this agenda item, Mayor Angelo Tonolli stated: “The subsidy remains stable for Le Rex. There is a need to reconsider the prices as they are much lower compared to other localities. The prices at Le Rex are abnormally low compared to similar cinemas.”

The mayor of Abbeville added: “The idea would be to gradually increase the prices at Le Rex with discounted rates for specific target audiences. However, nothing has been decided yet.”

Prices ranging from 3 to 5 euros

Opposition councilor Sarah Bosio remarked: “I hope this increase will be moderate for Le Rex, which may not be financially profitable but culturally significant.”

For reference, the full price is 5 euros with reduced rates of 3 or 3.50 euros.

The city provides a balancing subsidy of 1,061,910 euros for the Abbeville Stages. Angelo Tonolli emphasized: “The subsidy has decreased by 66,000 euros. The goal is to maintain a very accessible culture while optimizing revenues.”
