A major international star who was hiding under the Hedgehog costume on Mask Singer was unmasked this Friday, May 1st.
A first international star was unmasked this Friday, May 1st on Mask Singer on TF1. Under the hedgehog costume, adorned with large sunglasses and a colorful headset, was hiding “the biggest world star ever received on the show”, as promised by Camille Combal the previous week.
From his first performance, a jury member quickly solved the mystery. Comedian Kev Adams almost immediately recognized the artist: “I’ve listened to a lot of his songs… I think I know them all!” he confessed.
Behind the colorful and glittery spikes was American singer Jason Derulo. Revealed in 2009 with Watcha Say, he has had international success with hits like Savage Love, Swalla, and Talk Dirty.
When he took off his mask, the 36-year-old artist showed enthusiasm: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be here! It’s the best show in the world,” he said, with a smile. He becomes the fifteenth international star to participate in the French version of the program, following Gloria Gaynor, Tori Spelling, and Mel B of the Spice Girls.
“I recognized him right away”
Several clues had already put the audience and the jury on the right track. In the videos shown before his performance, the Hedgehog was seen partying and dancing. One could hear Colors, his song that served as the 2018 World Cup anthem. Other images referenced Lady Gaga, whose opening act he was, and Taylor Swift, with whom he starred in the movie Cats.
But it was his performance on stage that gave him away. Behind his costume, Jason Derulo sang Justin Timberlake’s My Love. He had never sung this song before but his voice was immediately recognizable. “I recognized him right away, he defined my childhood, an iconic voice,” wrote one internet user. “He has such a recognizable voice. I recognized him immediately,” added another.
During this episode, the public and the jury also unmasked the panther. To everyone’s surprise, it was actress and singer Véronique Jannot.
