Artist Pauline Paris unveils “Monsieur”, the fifth installment of her album-film “Breakfast(s) in the morning”, an audacious reinterpretation of a cult poem.

Singer-songwriter Pauline Paris offers a new immersion into her conceptual project with the release of “Monsieur”, the fifth extract from her album and film “Breakfast(s) in the morning”. This ambitious work is a musical and visual variation in nine chapters around the famous poem by Jacques Prévert, set to music by Joseph Kosma and immortalized by Marlène Dietrich in 1959.

A poem, nine perspectives

The project “Breakfast(s) in the morning” stands out for its unique narrative approach: each song and its corresponding video explore the point of view of a different character in the story. The new single, “Monsieur”, immerses us in the thoughts of the man sitting down for breakfast. As he is in the company of Madame, his memories take him back to the previous night, a secret and passionate rendezvous in the castle pavilion.

The visual universe, unfolding throughout the videos, weaves a love story set in the atmosphere of the sixties. Around the central couple revolve a gallery of characters and symbolic elements: a maid, a chauffeur, but also a cat, a fly, and even a wolf. Objects mentioned in Prévert’s poem, such as the cigarette or the pair formed by a cup and a spoon, are also personified, enriching the dreamlike and theatrical scope of the story.

An album-film shot at the Brangues Castle

More than just an album, “Breakfast(s) in the morning” is a true cinematographic work co-directed by Pauline Paris and Duncan Roberts. The entire film was shot in the prestigious setting of the Brangues Castle, adding a historical and aesthetic dimension to the project.

A versatile artist, Pauline Paris demonstrates the extent of her acting talents there. She interprets several characters, switching from Monsieur to the maid, and even embodying a teaspoon. In a fascinating play of mirrors, she also doubles as Madame, thus exploring all facets of this complex relationship.

Pauline Paris, a multidisciplinary artist

This syncretic project is the culmination of a rich and varied artistic career. Known for setting the poems of Renée Vivien, a sapphic poet from the Belle Époque, to music, and for co-writing with Lou Lootgieter the work “The lesbian undertones of the song”, Pauline Paris has always combined literature and music.

With four studio albums, three children’s albums, and numerous tours in France and abroad (Germany, Austria, Russia, Ireland…), she has accumulated a solid experience on stage and in writing. “Breakfast(s) in the morning” brings together all the disciplines she loves: song, theater, writing, poetry, and even the art of drag-king, offering a total and unique work.
