The 13 remaining contestants of this 28th season of “Koh-Lanta” experienced a dramatic turn of events during the last council meeting.
In “Koh-Lanta,” being considered one of the strongest, if not the strongest, is rarely an advantage. The contestant eliminated on Tuesday, April 28 in the episode broadcasted on TF1 discovered this at the end of a ruthless strategy carried out within the unified tribe of the “Reliques du destin.”
One week after Ulrich’s departure, a former yellow team member, it was the former red team members who lost one of their tribe members from Lahoy. The cause? A strategic betrayal by two former comrades of the eliminated contestant in this ninth episode, who is still having difficulty accepting their departure.
After an explosive obstacle course won by Daniel, who achieved his third consecutive individual victory, strategies spread insidiously among the unified camps of former yellow and red members. Clarisse and Cindy, former red team members feeling neglected, decided to ally with Jade, a former yellow member. This was an opportunity for Jade, who possessed an immunity necklace that she chose to give to her teammate Hugo on the advice of Clarisse and Cindy.
Hugo, who seemed doomed, was ultimately saved when the seven votes against him were canceled. The victim of this clever strategy was the military member Johan, with six votes against him. Johan, not lucky in the game of fate (his pottery was empty), left the bitter adventure. “It’s a bit like an elevator that unhooks before crashing to the ground,” he expressed to “Le Parisien” after his elimination. This Air Force instructor knew that danger lurked on the camp with the presence of a necklace in the hands of the former yellow members, but he thought “they wouldn’t be able to protect the right adventurer.”
Indeed, Johan had to wait for his final elimination to discover Clarisse and Cindy’s strategic betrayal. A “shock” for Johan: “I was completely unaware of it and experienced it as a betrayal, let’s not be afraid of words. Just think, the former yellow members had a one in five chance of choosing the right person to protect with Jade’s necklace. Their success rate doubled with the information provided by Clarisse and Cindy.”
Distressed but mostly surprised by his elimination, Johan was betrayed by two former comrades with whom he had been through the beginning of the adventure. Feeling more disappointed, he criticizes his two former comrades, stating that they “served him on a platter.” This “strategic mistake” is still hard to accept, especially since he did not foresee the red team splitting like this. “I was convinced that our bonds were still very strong.”
Despite visible cracks in the unified camp, a meeting of the former Lahoy members before the council revealed Clarisse and Cindy’s criticisms towards Johan, describing him as the grand “manitou” of the red alliance. “It’s a bit hurtful to hear that. But if she (Clarisse) said it, it’s because she felt it at that moment.”
With hindsight, Johan considers he was closer to being an organizer than a leader. However, he acknowledges his status as a favorite of this 28th season of Koh-Lanta: “My way of being in the group and organizing discussions makes me stand out, and when you stand out, you become a target for the opposing team. Especially after the unification: we want to go all the way, so we need to eliminate the strongest ones.”
“I had the heart to show certain things on Koh-Lanta. And from this point of view, I am frustrated,” adds this athletic thirty-year-old who did not have the opportunity to shine in individual challenges after the unification. But as he rightly points out to “20 Minutes,” all hope is not lost for Johan, as the “relics du destin” could be in his favor. He emphasizes that a remaining relic allows the eliminated contestant to participate in a challenge against the previous eliminee and an adventurer of his choice. A “truel” that has not yet been revealed among the pottery. “As long as it exists, there is hope,” he affirms.
