Not so long ago, the writer-philosopher Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt told me, as we discussed the meaning of the word “festival”, that “every artistic impulse has the merit of contributing to the fulfillment of each individual in both entertainment and the emotion it provides”. Eric-Emmanuel added: “That is also the strength of every festival”. And so was born “The Festival of Arts at Château de Berne”, which is having its first year today, from late April to mid-September.
This is indeed a first, not only in terms of its inaugural calendar date, but also in the reality of what it is.
A plural festival where all arts have their place. An unprecedented festival under the stars at nightfall, in a semi-circular amphitheater facing a pond of water lilies with a floating stage, surrounded by a wooded nature, as far as the eye can see, between a vineyard and a gastronomic hotel establishment, among the world’s finest. Château de Berne is indeed a five-star Relais & Châteaux property, which, with this Festival of the Arts, offers in its international institution a first in its history: opening a scenic space to all audiences and experiencing all arts up close with the artists.
