The merge is always a highly anticipated moment for Koh-Lanta fans. This season was no exception. The cards were completely shuffled, and the ambassadors had to make a decision with heavy consequences. On the Red side, Zakariya and Johan managed to assert their vision against Jade and Ulrich, putting Jonathan in a difficult position. This choice might come as a surprise, as Jonathan had recently joined their tribe. But for Zakariya, there was no doubt in reality. Behind the facade, the poker player was not trustworthy. And most importantly, he had made a fatal strategic error.
Koh-Lanta: Zakariya doesn’t mince words about Jonathan
In an interview with Télé-Loisirs, Zakariya was particularly frank when discussing Jonathan’s behavior. For him, the adventurer simply misjudged his position in the game. “I think he overestimated his hand or he was playing with his feet,” he bluntly stated. A harsh judgment, but one he stands by. According to Zakariya, the signals were clear: Jonathan had no support left. “He had unanimous votes against him. How could he believe they would fight for him with the ambassadors?” Zakariya analyzed. Under these circumstances, it’s hard to imagine a different outcome. But what seemed to annoy the adventurer the most was Jonathan’s attitude towards the Reds. “He took us for fools,” he lamented, convinced that his comrade never really considered switching to their side.
“My priority was to respect my commitment”: a choice upheld until the end
In this tense sequence, the adventurer also emphasizes his own state of mind. Because as ambassadors, everything can change, even for the one making the decision. Going for the black ball is a real risk, but he was willing to accept it. “I do not consider it a defeat in the sense that the person was not stronger than me,” he explained, before detailing his very personal view of the game: “For me, the ambassadors know who will have the most in the caleçon.” A way to remind that in Koh-Lanta, mental strength is as important as strategy. And on this point, Zakariya never wavered. “My priority was to respect my commitment. These are the values my parents instilled in me,” he confessed. This speech also sheds light on Jonathan’s elimination. While the latter hesitated, and perhaps miscalculated, Zakariya remained steadfast.
