“I swear to you to win”: at the Parc floral de Vincennes, Bruno Retailleau stays on course towards the Élysée

REPORTAGE – During his first campaign meeting, the Republican presidential candidate promised to put his “heart and guts on the table”, ensuring that 2027 was “the last chance election”.

This time, it’s for real. Friday, he rehearsed, listened to the entrance music, checked the intensity of the spotlights one last time. The bass thunders this Saturday as Bruno Retailleau pierces the crowd who came to listen to him at the Parc Floral in Paris, where the candidate Les Républicains (LR) chose to hold his first presidential campaign meeting. On Saturday, the Vendéen spoke for almost an hour to some 6,000 people (a figure claimed by the party) who came to listen to him. “And it’s only just begun!â€he says.

The decor is sober, blue-white-red on the screens, flags framing the stage decorated with a single platform and the standing candidate. In front, his supporters: the writer Boualem Sansal, moving when he talks about how much French poetry has “Save” Algerian jails; the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher; Valérie Pécresse; François-Xavier Bellamy; Michel Barnier or even, François Baroin, the mayor of Troyes eagerly awaited by the “retailists”…
